The Whisper exotic mission guide in Destiny 2

The Exotic Mission ‘The Whisper’ has returned with Into The Light, and along with it comes a craftable Whisper of the Worm Exotic Sniper Rifle. This was the first exotic mission added to Destiny 2 and it’s back with some changes and more secrets, and today I’m going to walk you through the mission, plus how to get the additional perksand the pattern for the Whisper of the Worm Sniper Rifle in Destiny 2.

Way back when this was originally released, starting this exotic quest was tricky. We didn’t have a legends tab on the director back then to start exotic missions, we had to go to Io and kill a specific enemy during a public event. Thankfully that mechanic is gone, and now all you have to do is speak to Eris Morn on the Moon and she’ll give you the ‘Whispers of the Past’ quest. Once you have done this, exit the moon and go to the Director, select the Into The Light node and then select The Whisper mission.

The Whisper Guide

Once you load into The Whisper mission you’ll be in the Grove of Ulan-Tan Lost Sector. On normal mode you have 40 mins and legendary mode you’ll have 20 mins. If the timer runs out you’ll get sent back to orbit with your team, so beat the mission before the time runs down.

From the starting point move forward and head straight ahead. You should be able to see a mini Vex item floating in the air, shoot this and it’ll create you some platforms to use to help you get into the starting area. Kill the enemies that get in your way, destroy the Taken Blight and then jump down the hole.

Note, the first two immune blights are here, and you’ll want to shoot them with Whisper of the Worm. You may have to do this on another run if you haven’t got Whisper yet.

Once you have gone down the hole, keep going forward and crouch to get through the gaps where neccessary. Keep going and you’ll find yourself in a huge room. The first Oracle is here, you’ll want to go around the corner to find it. Jump off the edge and keep to the right, crouch and make your way through the sector, just be careful of the structures poking out of the wall as they will knock you off to your death. Follow the path and jump over to the platform in the middle.

From this point you’ll want to jump down to the right and onto the tiny ledge, then jump around the corner, then crouch. The walls move in and out here, and you’ll want to walk forward slowly to make your way past the death traps. Make sure you stop at the right time, just steaming ahead here is a fast way to get pushed off to your death.

Get past this section and then jump over the ravine and onto the small platform. Crouch through the gap, watching for the hole in the floor and then jump onto the platform above that moves up and down. You want to jump on the lift platform at the right time, so you can jump again onto the platform above. Once you have done this continue forward and then take a sharp left turn, heading towards the lights.

The next room can be tricky because the angles are difficult. Watch out for the floor moving and the structures coming in from above, I find jumping through this room helps. Then you come to another large room with a jumping section. Be careful of the taken vents that will push you, but you want to jump from platform to platform and then make your way through the small hoel in the wall at the end. Right near the end here is another oracle if you need it.

You enter another large room, this time with lots of portals. You want to make your way to the right, and to the far end at the top, this is your way forward. Jump through the portal and you’ll find yourself in the green room. The Green Room can be difficult to get out of, but there is a trick to it. Instead of rushing forward and trying to jump around the room you can fall through the gaps, and your Guardian will turn on a torch to help you see. Before you leave the green room, there are a couple of blights to shoot with Whisper of the Worm, but you can come back and do that later if you need to.

Once you have fall through the gap, keep going forward and make your way out into the open, keeping tight to the ledge and make your way round to the left. You’ll see a slender platform, and you want to position yourself at the end of this, then drop off and through the door indicated by the light. From here walk along the wall, jump over the other side and then up, and then it’s finally time for the combat section.

Here we have multiple rooms of Taken enemies where you have to kill everything to progress, and you have 3 rooms in total. Once you get through this you have made it through to the boss area. There are 4 bosses in total, there are 3 smaller bosses first (which you have to activate via shooting an object). You can take on the 3 bosses at the same time, or one at a time, whatever works for you. Once you have defeated them you have to take out a Taken Ogre: Tulgorh, Aspect of Agony. Kill the Wizards to take down the shield, then you can damage the boss.

Once you do this you’ll be rewarded the Whisper of the Worm Exotic Sniper pattern.

Then go back and see Eris and she’ll give you an exotic quest to upgrade Whisper of the Worm, and this means going back into the mission on Legendary difficulty, plus you have to shoot the blights and find the Oracles. Follow the steps on the quest and you’ll get additional perks. New quests are being released each week for specific upgrades.

Whisper of the Worm

Whisper of the Worm is an Exotic Power Sniper Rifle. Checking out the perks we have:

  • White Nail – Higher base precision damage. Rapidly landing three precision hits will refill the magazine.
  • Mulligan – Missing a shot has a chance to return ammo directly to the magazine.

If you have never used Whisper of the Worm before, then it’s all about White Nail, and being able to chain those precision hits together, which then refills the magazine, making it a potential boss killer for endgame PVE content like Raids, Nightfall Strikes and Dungeons.

Let me know what you think about The Whisper, plus Whisper of the Worm in the comments.
