We’re approaching the end of Episode Revenant, and Destiny 2 has a special event going on right now called Past is Prologue. Drifter and Eris have some rewards to earn by completing acitvities, you get Bento tokens in return and you can then exchage these for rewards. Today I’m going to run through all the key info related to the Past is Prologue event in Destiny 2.
How to get Bento Tokens
Bento Tokens are a new currency that’s exclusive to the Past is Prologue event, which runs from January 21st to February 4th. During the event, the Drifter will have a small collection of quests you can claim, awarding Bento Tokens upon completion. Easier bounties award one token, while endgame PvE/PvP bounties award two. You can then redeem these tokens at Eris on the Moon for unique rewards. You may earn up to eight Bento Tokens during this event. This is per account, not character.
Past is Prologue is more or less the same as Riven’s Wishes, a sort of epilogue event that ran during Season of the Wish last year. Speak with the Drifter, complete some basic tasks, and then talk to Eris to buy rewards. This event runs until Episode: Heresy begins, so be sure to redeem your tokens before the season ends.
Drifter Bento Token Quests
The Drifter will have a handful of quests up for grabs during the event. Speak with the Drifter in the Tower and select the “Limited-Time Event” banner to see his Bento Token quests; he’ll usually have four. You can grab all his available quests and work on them simultaneously.
The Drifter will have additional Bento Token quests at each weekly reset. These quests can be acquired early from Xur during their weekend visit.
These short quests typically ask you to complete a menial task, such as getting kills with the Drifter’s favorite weapons or completing activities on the Moon. Once the quest objectives are complete, speak with Eris on the Moon to claim your Bento Token(s). You can then redeem the tokens in her event shop.
Nightmare Lunch
Objective – Complete activities on the Moon. Nightmare Hunts grant bonus progress.
Reward x1 Bento Token
Nightmare Lunch is structured similarly to planetary-focused Seasonal Challenges. You need to earn 60 points by completing activities on the Moon. The activity you complete determines how many points you’ll receive:
Patrols +1
Altars of Sorrow +3 Per Wave
Public Event +5 (Heroic)
Lost Sector +5
Nightmare Hunt +25 (Any Difficulty)
The fastest way of getting this done is to complete two Nightmare Hunts and two Lost Sectors on the Moon. Nightmare Hunts will grant +25 score regardless of difficulty, so boot up the Advanced variant that includes matchmaking for an easy time. As for Lost Sectors, K1 Revelation in Sorrow’s Harbor tends to be the fastest.
The Stuff Of Legends
Objective – Finish 2 final encounters in a raid or dungeon. Raid encounters automatically finish the quest.
Reward x2 Bento Tokens
Completing any final encounter in a raid or dungeon will grant progress toward this quest, with raid encounters completing the quest objective outright. If you have a group to raid with, you can clear the final encounters in Deep Stone Crypt or Root of Nightmares Root of Nightmares in a few minutes for some easy tokens.
If you’re a solo player who doesn’t have a raid group, then you’ll want to clear dungeon encounters instead. Shattered Throne Shattered Throne is your best bet, as power creep has made the Dul Incaru final boss a complete pushover in today’s sandbox. If you have a good Grenade Launcher or ability spam build, you can clear the encounter in less than a minute.
A Dubios Bento
Objective – Kill 10 enemies in Gambit. Kill 10 enemies on the Moon.
Reward x1 Bento Token
Drifter will ask you to collect Dubious Celery from slain Gambit targets and Century Eggs from Moon enemies. These items seem to have an incredibly high drop chance and are automatically collected when the target dies. Get some kills in Gambit, eliminate a few enemies on the Moon, and then head to Eris to claim your token.
Martial Mementos
Objective – Get 100 kills with Malfeasance, Witherhoard, Touch of Malice, Whisper of the Worm, Xenophage, or Arbalest. Kills are tracked across all activities and are cumulative.
Reward x1 Bento Token
This quest requires you to get kills with some of the Drifter and Eris’ favorite Exotic weapons. If you’re a new or returning Guardian, here’s where you can obtain each weapon.
Malfeasance: The Seething Heart quest.
Witherhoard: Exotic Kiosk in the Tower (Shadowkeep tab)
Touch of Malice: King’s Fall raid.
Whisper of the Worm: The Whisper Exotic mission.
Xenophage: Xenology quest (Shadowkeep).
Arbalest: Exotic Kiosk in the Tower (Forsaken tab).
As for landing those kills, we recommend the start of Grasp of Avarice or the Thrall room in The Whisper mission. Kills from any activity will work, so don’t feel forced to use a kill farm to get this done.
Bento Token Rewards
Eris has a wide selection of rewards you can claim with your hard-earned Bento Tokens. Bear in mind that you can earn up to eight Bento Tokens during this event. This limit applies to your entire account. Unless otherwise specified, these rewards don’t have redemption limits.

What Should You Spend Your Bento Tokens On?
Since you’re limited on how many items you can buy, here’s what we recommend:
Igneous Hammer (Adept): This is a 4/5 god roll for PvP and can be enhanced.
Cataphract GL3 (Adept): A top-tier Heavy weapon for PvE. Grab this if you don’t have a strong Grenade Launcher.
Exotic Ciphers: They’re difficult to get normally and are in short supply. Grab these if you’re a new or returning player.
Artifice Class Item: This is objectively the best Legendary class item in the game, giving you +3 more stats than all other class items.
Do not buy Artifice armor: the stat totals are low, and stat distributions are poor.
Spoils of Conquest: These can be useful if you’re chasing red borders for raid weapons but are running low on Spoils.
Let me know in the comments what you think.
