Onslaught is a new horde mode coming with Destiny 2 Into The Light

Today Bugie showed off their first lvie stream for Into The Light. This week was focused on Onslaught, a new wave-based horde mode activity coming with the free-fro-all-players update on April 9th. Today I’m going to summarise what we saw for Onslaught coming to Destiny 2.

What is Onslaught?

Onslaught is a new 3 player activity coming with Into The Light, which is going to drop into the game for free in 3 weeks time. This is a new wave based activity where we defend and also attack the forces of The Witness. The enemies are at our door and we’re fighting in the streets of the Last City.

Lord Shaxx is our NPC for this event, plus we’re going to be supported by his redjacks. Shaxx is the perfect hypeman for this frenetic activity, plus he’s going to offer up some tools to help us including trip mines, decoy bots and turrets.

What are the objectives?

Our fireteam of 3 Guardians have to defend something called the ADU – Advanced Defence Unit. Waves of enemies attack us, and we kill them and throw batteries into the ADU to maintain it’s health, which is similar to the Black Armory Forges. The acivity gets more difficult over time. As we kill enemies they drop a currency called Scrap. We use this currency to buy defences including turrets, trip wires, decoy bots. They each have levels which can increase their lethality.

We have a 10 wave version of Onslaught, which is nice and quick to pick up and play, but there’s also a 50 round version, progressively getting harder and harder as we go. As well as the main objective of defending the ADU and killing enemy waves, there are secondary objectives that appear. These can reward heavy ammo crates to help you take on more enemy waves. There are a few difficulty levels including normal and legend modes, meaning that 50 levels is going to be tough on legend difficulty.

What enemies do we fight?

We saw Fallen and Hive featured as different waves, but I imagine all enemies races are going to be included in Onslaught. High value targets come onto the battlefield and make a beeline for the ADU, trying to destroy it. These include Ultras and mini bosses, and later Tormentors, although we didn’t see a Tormentor on the live stream.

Where does this take place?

There are going to be a few locations, but this livestream featured Midtown as the map, which had been modified by the Pyramid Ships. On the 6th round of each wave we enter into a portal that transports us to a pyramid ship, and we fight a boss there.

What are the rewards?

Next week’s stream is going to focus on weapons coming to Into The Light, however, Midnight Coup was confimed, plus I think we saw Hammerhead, although that may have been another machine gun. We also saw the Hung Jury SR4 drop. We’re going to get much more info on weapons next week on 26th March.

How do we team up with friends?

Bungie said there was random matchmaking, and you can team up with your friends plus it’s compatible with fireteam finder. They said they would have to confirm this for the higher difficulty activity.

That’s about it for the summary, I’ll add any further info that Bungie release to a pinned comment below this video. Go and check out the full Bungie stream for all the details, I’ll link that video in the description.

Let me know what you think of Onslaught in the comments, is this something that’s going to bring you back to Destiny 2 with Into The Light? I’d love to hear what you think.
