How to get the Praxic Blade (Exotic Lightsabre) in Destiny 2

The Praxic Blade is Destiny 2’s first true lightsaber-style exotic, a weapon that blends elegant precision with explosive versatility. More than just a sword, it’s a hybrid tool that lets Guardians strike at range, punish enemies with perfectly timed deflections, and flow seamlessly between rapid melee combos and empowered heavy attacks. Today I’m going to show you how to get it in Destiny 2 Renegades.

What is the Praxic Blade?

The Praxic Blade features an elegant, energy-charged blade that can be thrown, recalled, deflected, and channeled with a level of finesse no other sword in the game offers. Its combat style blends offense, defense, and mobility, making it feel less like a heavy melee weapon and more like a tuned instrument of Light, built for Guardians who value technique as much as raw power.

In gameplay terms, the Praxic Blade stands out because of its unique hybrid identity: half-melee weapon, half-projectile, and part defensive tool. It allows Guardians to throw the blade to strike enemies at range, reflect incoming projectiles with perfect guard timing, and perform stylish multi-hit combos that weave light and heavy attacks together. With exotic cores, crystals, and catalysts that further refine its behaviour — from increasing its piercing capability to empowering its reflected shots — the Praxic Blade becomes highly customizable. Whether you favour high-speed melee aggression, defensive counterplay, or mid-range precision throws, the weapon adapts to your style, delivering one of the most dynamic and expressive combat experiences in Destiny 2.

How to get the Praxic Blade

Play through the Renegades campaign – As you progress the main story, you’ll eventually reach a stage (step 33 out of 45) that sends you to the “Praxic Temple.”

Complete the exotic mission “Fire and Ice” – Once in the Praxic Temple, you’ll load into this mission as part of the campaign. Finish the mission to obtain the Blade. After the final boss in the mission, you’ll be taken to a “Praxic chamber” where you claim the Blade. There’s no extra quest or requirement beyond clearing the mission once. You can complete it on Normal difficulty if you just want the weapon; Legendary difficulty is optional (for challenge).

Fire & Ice Exotic Mission Guide

Fire & Ice begins in a quiet, snow-swept region that looks and feels like a Europa patrol zone, but with an important twist: there are no quest markers, no radar, and almost no visual cues to point you toward your objective. Your first task is to locate the entrance to the Praxic Vault, where the mission truly unfolds. Move forward from your spawn point toward the cavernous open area ahead. As you progress, you’ll come across a bunker-like structure guarded by Taken and Cabal enemies. Once the area is clear, interact with the terminal beside the heavy blast doors to gain entry. Inside, a Pyramid device sits at the center of the room. Activate it to trigger a Taken ambush; defeating these enemies opens a portal that leads to an Ascendant Plane replica of the same room. Step through and collect the Imbalanced Octant to continue deeper into the vault environment.

Crossing the Tower and Ascendant Exterior

After obtaining the Octant, look toward the tall, hollow tower positioned in the center of the area. You’ll need to climb up the backside of this structure and carefully drop into the opening at the top. Missing this landing is fatal, so line up your jump carefully. Moving forward through the snow eventually transitions you into a more traditional Ascendant Plane space dominated by the massive façade of the Praxic Vault. As you scale around its exterior, pay close attention to the walls; piston traps intermittently slam outward, mirroring the brutal knockback traps from King’s Fall. Touching one will launch you into the abyss, so patience is key as you time your jumps.

To progress, you must enter a crack located on the second level of the vault wall, just to the right of the main sealed door. Players with movement tech can grenade-launch themselves directly on top of the door, though another piston trap lies waiting there as well. The safer method is to use the small, narrow ledges nearby. Jump from platform to platform until you reach the third wall light, then climb the icicle next to it. From this second layer, move back across the wall to the correct opening and slip inside.

The Infinite Corridor and Hidden Drop

This interior section is designed to mislead you. As you navigate the hallway, you’ll eventually notice a small opening on the right-hand side. It is crucial that you enter this hole. Continuing down the main corridor leads into an infinite looping hallway that turns back on itself endlessly, disorienting players until they eventually concede. The hole bypasses the loop entirely and drops into a larger chamber containing a long suspended beam. Run along the beam toward the far wall until you can go no farther. At this point, turn around and look up; several piston platforms extend rhythmically from the wall. Jump from piston to piston, then crouch through the small opening above them. This leads to a drop that brings you deeper into the vault.

Navigating the Disappearing Floor Maze

The next room challenges you with shifting floor tiles and sliding wall gates that open and close on a loose timer. The best strategy is not to fixate on specific gaps in the gates, as these positions can change suddenly and lead you directly into a drop. Instead, move along the right wall at first, then transition to the left side once you see an opening. Continue pushing forward until you reach the exit. From here, climb upward and traverse across the snowy roof above the room. If you fall, you’re forced to repeat the entire maze. Once you’re safely across, move through the upper exit that leads back outside. Follow the snow-covered path up toward the upper entrance of the vault, where another Pyramid device waits. Interact with it to open the next portal.

The First Encounter: Light and Dark Balance

Entering this new portal delivers you to an arena where the first mechanical challenge begins. Your goal here is to charge four floating hoops using motes of Light and Dark. These motes can only be generated through the elites spawning on either side of the room. Taken elites provide one type of energy, while Cabal elites provide the other, and how you combine your kills determines the kind of mote that eventually drops. Throw the motes into the hoops one at a time, making sure to maintain balance between Light and Dark. Overfilling one side resets the entire puzzle and prolongs the encounter. Once all four hoops are properly charged, return to the center of the platform and calibrate the Octant, which clears the arena of enemies and opens another portal in the same location you entered from.

The Final Boss Encounter

Heading back through this portal brings you once again to the Pyramid device, which must be activated to enter the final arena. The last boss is a straightforward encounter, with only a single mechanical barrier preventing you from dealing the killing blow. Simply damage the boss until its health reaches the final quarter, at which point it becomes immune. Two black hoops appear overhead, and just like in the first encounter, you must charge these using motes generated from elite enemies. To summon the proper elites, climb the platforms at the center of the arena and activate the Pyramid switches at the top. Once the required motes drop, throw them into the hoops to complete the mechanic. When both hoops are filled, the boss becomes vulnerable for the final time. Finish it off, and you’ll be transported into a ceremonial chamber where the Praxic Blade awaits.

After equipping the blade, a short tutorial sequence takes you through its basic moves and abilities. Once complete, you exit the vault and officially finish the mission, unlocking the exotic sword.

Upgrading the Praxic Blade

Upon completing the Renegades campaign for the first time, you’ll receive a follow-up quest called Praxic Path, which allows you to unlock upgrades, catalysts, and alternate blade colors for the Praxic Blade. Much of this quest requires replaying the Fire & Ice mission, collecting hidden components within the vault, and completing mechanical challenges similar to the ones encountered during your first clear. Additional upgrades can be earned by leveling faction reputation across the Lawless Frontier or participating in vendor-related activities. One of the sword’s catalysts is also tied to the Equilibrium Dungeon, which releases shortly after the launch of Renegades.

The Praxic Blade has four catalysts in total, each altering how the weapon behaves. Echoing Blade enhances the number of targets your thrown sword can strike, allowing it to chain more aggressively. Upper Hand improves the damage of thrown attacks and reflected projectiles whenever you hold the high ground over your opponent. Hyperblade rewards successful projectile reflections by amplifying your character and dramatically increasing your next sword lunge distance. Finally, Energy Conduit provides valuable survivability by granting health regeneration based on how many enemies are hit by a single thrown blade.

Praxic Blade Gameplay & Perks

The Praxic Blade sets itself apart from every other sword in Destiny 2 by blending melee combat, ranged attacks, and defensive counterplay into a single exotic. At its core, the weapon is built around precision and momentum rather than brute-force swings. Its signature ability allows the wielder to throw the blade as a glowing energy projectile, striking enemies at range before recalling it like a boomerang. This thrown attack can chain between multiple targets or be charged for a heavier, more direct strike, giving the weapon far more flexibility than any traditional sword. Whether closing distance, clearing adds, or finishing off priority targets, the thrown blade makes Praxic Blade feel uniquely fluid and aggressive.

Complementing its offensive potential is its standout defensive perk, which allows the wielder to reflect incoming projectiles while guarding. This isn’t just a damage-reduction shield—timed correctly, reflected shots become lethal counterattacks that inherit the exotic’s elemental power. The mechanic rewards smart positioning and sharp reflexes, turning enemy fire into fuel for your offense. Combined with its enhanced movement and combo flow, Praxic Blade encourages a combat rhythm closer to a duelist or spellblade than a brute-force melee fighter.

The sword also includes a combo system that ties its light and heavy attacks together more tightly than most melee weapons. After performing a series of quick, rhythmic strikes, players can chain into a powerful enhanced heavy attack that covers more ground and hits significantly harder than the standard version. This “Cormorant Combo” feels like a martial flourish, rewarding players who remain in the thick of combat and maintain consistent momentum. Its ability to weave between light combos, ranged throws, and counter-guarding keeps the sword dynamic and expressive.

Finally, the weapon’s buildcraft potential grows even deeper once catalysts and attunement cores come into play. These upgrades can modify blade color, increase the lethality of the thrown strike, amplify your movement after reflecting shots, or even grant healing based on the number of enemies hit. This allows players to tailor the Praxic Blade to their preferred style—whether that’s a hyper-mobile melee assassin, a defensive counter-striker, or a ranged energy duelist. In practice, this makes the Praxic Blade one of the most adaptive and personality-driven exotics in Destiny 2’s sandbox, capable of anchoring entire playstyles around its unique blend of attack, defense, and mobility.
