The Death Stench Armor is one of the best looking armor sets, plus it’s got some great perks and stats for those starting out in High Rank. Today I’m going to go through all the steps required to get the Death Stench armor in Monster Hunter Wilds.
The first thing you’ll need to do is get through to High Rank. This is at the conclusion of Chapter 3, and you’ll know when you’re there because you will roll credits. Once you readch High Rank Monster Hunter Wilds opens up and you get access to loads more features.
The Death Stench armor is great as it allows you to look like the Grim Reaper. It’s made of bones and other materials and looks pretty sinister.
Here is what you need for the full armor set.
- Sinister Cloth (1 for each armor piece, 5 total)
- Wingdrake Hides+ (1 each for the helmet, chest, and arms, 3 total)
- Quality Bones (1 each for the helmet, chest, and arms, 3 total)
- Herbivore Carapaces (1 each for the waist and legs, 2 total)
- Colossal Bones (1 each for the waist and legs, 2 total)
How to get Sinister Cloth
Sinister Cloth is an item you’ll need to trade for in Monster Hunter Wilds. Sinister Cloth appears in trading inventories like:
Kilama: 1 Great Windward Aloe for 1 Sinister Cloth
Gawdygog: 10 Ancient Wyvern Coins for 1 Sinister Cloth
Ancient Wyvern Coins can be found out and about on your adventures, I have a specifc guide for them on the channel. Great Windward Aloe only appears as a rare event collectible in the Windward Plains. Grab these rare resources before speaking to the vendors, or you can speak to Nata and he’ll help you trade and browse their inventories.
How to get Wingdrake Hides+
You can obtain Wingdrake Hide+ by carving Baunos and Harpios. Both small monsters have a good chance of dropping the material when carved. Baunos can be found in the Windward Plains while Harpios can be found in the Scarlet Forest. To kill these monsters more easily, you can use their slingers to bring them down.
How to get Quality Bones
Quality Bones can be found in all high-rank locations. They are typically found surrounding certain zones along the edges of the map. Some are near base and pop-up camps.
Windward Plains Zone 5: This location has four total Bone Piles that can all be centered around a pop-up camp, making it an optimal Quality Bone looting spot.
Scarlet Forest Zone 6: Off in a small side section lie two Bone Piles, with another found further down the path this area breaks away from.
Oilwell Basin Zone 3: Two Bone Piles can be found grouped together, with a third found further North from this zone towards the second entrance to the base Camp.
Iceshard Cliffs Zone 4 and 14: On the second level of the map lies Zone 4, which holds two Bone Piles, with two more found on the second level in the Nercylla’s nest.
Ruins of Wyveria Zone 4 and 6: Almost forming a line between the two zones lie four different Bone Piles, starting from the northwest edge and snaking all the way to the southeast edge of the map.
How to get Herbivore Carapaces
Players can carve Herbivore Carapaces from Ceratonoths, the dinosaur-like creatures that are often found in herds in Windward Plains. There’s usually a Ceratonoth herd right outside the Plains Base Camp, and more can be found further in the grassland. To make sure the herds spawn, Rest in your tent and wait until Daytime in Season of Plenty.
There’s a very good chance that players will get Raw Meat instead of Herbivore Carapace. It’s hard to pin the exact drop rate for the latter, but as long as you keep slaying Ceratonoths, you should be able to get all the carapaces you need for your crafting projects.
How to get Colossal Bones
Players have a 50% chance of receiving a Colossal Bone when carving the carcasses of High Rank Congas, small ape-like monsters that appear in the Scarlet Forest.
Players also have a 50% chance of receiving a Colossal Bone when carving the carcass of a High Rank Blango, a small ape-like monster that spawns in the Iceshard Cliffs.
Death Stench armor stats and skills
The Death Stench armor has decent stats for your journey throughout High Rank. You will outgrow the armor at some point, but you can also use it as layered armor and keep the look.
It’s a rarity 6 armor set which is better than early High Rank monster armor sets, but not as good as the Apex Monster sets or Arkveld. Each piece has a 44 defense baseline and has good resistance to every element except Thunder.
Here are the skills:
Resentment (level 5 for the full set, one from each armor piece)
Ambush (level 3 for the full set, one from the helmet, chest, and arms)
Intimidator (level 2, with both levels coming from the waist)
Stun Resistance (level 2, with both levels coming from the legs)
Imparted Wisdom (Forager’s Luck) is the set’s group skill
Let me know in the comments what you think of the Death Stench armor.
