Malediction is the ritual weapon in Season of the Witch, and it’s a useful 120 RPM Hand Cannon that comes with a decent selection of perks. This one is going to be good in both PVE and PVP, so today I’m going to look at the weapon in a little more detail, the stats, perks, plus how to get Malediction in Destiny 2.
How to get Malediction
To get Malediction you’ll want to reach rank 16 in Vanguard, Cruicble or Gambit. Make sure to check out the rewards track for Zavala (Vanguard), Lord Shaxx (Crucible) and Drifter (Gambit) – they can be found in the Tower. Rank 16 requires 9000 reputation to get, so it’s going to be a few hours of playtime in the playlist of your choice.
Malediction
Malediction is a Legendary Kinetic Hand Cannon with an aggressive frame meaning it has high damage, high recoil. Optimized for long-distance shooting. Looking at the stats we have Impact 92, Range 61, Stability 29, Handling 32, Reload Speed 28, Airborne Effectiveness 20, Rounds Per Minute 120 and Magazine 9.
This one has a choice of Origin Traits
- Wild Card – Final blows with this weapon have a chance to create experimental submunitions at the target’s location.
- Vanguard’s Vindication – Final blows with this weapon grant a small amount of health.
- One Quiet Moment – Grants increased reload speed when out of combat.
- Gun and Run – Rapidly defeating targets with this weapon grants bonus sprint speed. Guardians, powerful combatants, and high-value targets grant this bonus quicker.
Malediction perks
- Fluted Barrel – Greatly increases handling speed, Slightly increases stability
- Flared Magwell – Slightly increases stability, Greatly increases reload speed
Then a choice in the 3rd column
- Discord – Final blows with another weapon grant this weapon increased speed for aiming down sights, accuracy, and airborne effectiveness for a short time. When Discord is active, final blows refund ammo.
- Enlightened Action – Dealing damage improves reload speed and handling.
Then a choice in the 4th column
- Harmony – Final blows with other weapons improve this weapon’s damage and performance for a short duration.
- Explosive Payload – Projectiles create an area-of-effect detonation on impact.
For PVP Enlightened Action and Explosve Payload can be a good combination for a dueling hand cannon, with Explosive Payload flinching your opponent. This combination is also good in PVE given you get that 15% extra damage in PVE with Explosive Payload. Enlightened Action greatly buffs your reload and handling.
Malediction Ornamnents
As with other ritual weapons, Malediction comes with 3 ornaments. After this season you’ll be able to get them from the Monuments to Lost Lights in the Tower for materials.
Aged Allegiance (Vanguard)
Aged Allegiance is obtained by resetting your Vanguard Rank with Zavala and reaching Rank 16 again. This can be slow going as Vanguard ranks are the slowest. One good way to spped this up is wait for a double XP week for vanguard ops.
Seasoned Temper (Crucible)
Seasoned Temper is the Crucible ornament for Malediction and can be earned by resetting your Crucible Rank and reaching Rank 16 again. To get this done quickly farm the weekly rotating playlists.
Mulled Envy (Gambit)
Mulled Envy is the Drifter’s unique ornament for Malediction, earned upon resetting your Gambit Rank and reaching Rank 16 once again with the Drifter. Stick with a team and a single playlist and keep invading to increase your XP gains, plus you have double XP weeks too.
Let me know in the comments what you think of Malediction.
