Buried Bloodline is a fantastic exotic sidearm in Destiny 2, plus it’s great for DPS as well as clearing out smaller enemies. Once you get this sidearm it’s very hard to take off given it’s so deadly. Today I am going to check out the Buried Bloodline in more detail, the stats, exotic perks, plus also how to get Buried Bloodline in Destiny 2.
How to get Buried Bloodline
To get this one you’ll need to beat the final boss of Warlord’s Ruin Dungeon, and Buried Bloodline can drop as a reward. To get access to Warlord’s Ruin you’ll need the Dungeon key, but it’s well worth it as this is one of the best dungeons Bungie has produced for Destiny 2. You can also complete specific triumphs on the Warlord’s Ruin seal to increase your chances of getting this weapons to drop for you.
Buried Bloodline
Buried Bloodline is an Exotic Energy Sidearm and it comes with the exotic perks.
- Hungering Quarrel – Double fires tracking bolts. Landing bolts leeches health from the target.
- Violent Reanimation – Multiple final blows with this weapon grant Devour to the wielder.
Looking at the stats we have Range 35, Velocity 69, Stability 52, Handling 55, Reload Speed 21, Airborne Effectiveness 22, Rounds Per Minute 100, Magazine 9.
In The Shadow of the Mountain
To get the catalyst, first of all you’ll need to complete the quest In The Shadow of the Mountain. You’ll have to go through Warlord’s Ruin 3 times, unless you go with Guardians who have access to Tier I, Tier II and Tier III rooms. To complete this quest you’ll need to find secret rooms and collect Hefnd Bones, collect Dark Ether Tinctures and collect Blighted Wishing Glass.
Dark Ether Tinctures can be found by shooting the shining screebs throughout the dungeon. If you find one, you can farm them by wiping and going back to get more. You’ll get Blighted Wishing Glass by completing encounters. The trickest part of the quest, and the most time consuming is the Hefnd Bones.
These are split into 3 groups, Tier I, Tier II and Tier III. Tier I rooms are available on your first run, Tier II your second and Tier III your third. However, if you go in with a Guardian who already has access, and you can find these Guardians via LFG, it is possible to get these in a single run.
Hefnd Bones location
Tier I
- First Bone: Across the bridge inside the first fort, before an arresting Knight assails you.
- Second Bone: Across from imprisonment, after ascending through the ceiling.
- Third Bone: At the top of the summit, face back from the cliff and find shelter.
Tier II
- Fourth Bone: In the snowfallen maze, through the broken wall, seek the banner of kings.
- Fifth Bone: Cross into the Tempest, through the portcullis, at the sewer’s mouth.
- Sixth Bone: At summit’s base, find shelter off the beaten path. Too far, and the Taken will descend upon you.
Tier III
- Seventh Bone: Within the maze, stride spanning a pitfall, light calls through the window.
- Eighth Bone: The Taken roil at cave’s bottom sends you to scurry over boulders into a ruined alcove.
- Ninth Bone: Within a tunnel on the broken cliffs, brave the Taken storm.
Pick up all the bones and items, then interact with a Toland orb to reveal to the portal just before the final boss, and deliver the bones to the skeleton. Finally, speak to Ikroa and it’s onto the next step.
Once you have finished In The Shadow of the Mountain, now it’s time to get the catalyst, and you’ll have to go back into the Warlord’s Ruin Dungeon.
Buried Bloodline Catalyst
The Buried Bloodline Catalyst is good because it adds something called Splitvein Lineage, which means the weapon weakens enemies when Devour is active. This makes an already great exotic, even better.
The secret catalyst objective for Buried Bloodline has players complete three puzzles, each of which involves the Taken Totem mechanic introduced at the very start of the dungeon where players must stand inside Totem circle. These puzzles show up throughout the dungeon and after completing the third puzzle, players must complete a secret boss fight.
Buried Bloodline Catalyst Puzzle 1
After defeating the first boss, the very first puzzle for the catalyst is right outside of the prison cells players get thrown into. Upon looking for a gate that acts as a dead end for the room, players will notice four unlit torches. There is a small Taken Blight behind this gate that can only be broken by Buried Bloodline.
Breaking this Blight will light three out of four torches in the room and spawn four Taken Totems in different cells around the players. The placement in these torches coincides with the placement of the Taken Totems in the prison — for example, each torch represents a prison cell with a Taken Totem.
Players will need to extinguish the correct Taken Totems within 30 seconds to complete the puzzle. Failing will simply reset the puzzle and display the text saying: “An unspoken wish persists” on the kill feed.
Players can attempt the puzzle as much as they want until they extinguish the correct Totems. Upon solving it, the following text will appear: “An unspoken wish is silenced. Buried Bloodline clicks audibly.” This indicates that the puzzle is complete and that players can move on.
Buried Bloodline Catalyst Puzzle 2
The second puzzle for the catalyst lies in the ruins after the prison maze, but before the second boss encounter. There will be a few groups of enemies here, so be sure to defeat them before going further. Upon reaching the broken bridge facing the ruins of the castle in the mountains, instead of jumping across, turn around and look up to see a Taken Blight floating in the air. Once again, this Blight can only be broken by Buried Bloodline.
Breaking this Blight will activate three random torches in the snowy platforming section leading up to the broken bridge after exiting the maze. Make your way back towards the maze but stop when you see torches and Taken Totems. Taken Totems will be on snowy rocks near torches in a way where each Totem is close to a specific Torch.
Players will need to extinguish the Taken Totems closest to each Torch to solve this puzzle. Though easier than the first puzzle, there are 30 seconds to complete it. Players can try it again if they get it wrong. Once again, extinguishing the correct Totems will display the text: “An unspoken wish is silenced. Buried Bloodline clicks audibly.” This indicates that the puzzle is complete and that players can move on to the next encounter.
Buried Bloodline Catalyst Puzzle 3
The final puzzle for the Buried Bloodline catalyst shows up in the platforming section with the large, floating Taken Blight between the snowy mountains. This is after the room with the enormous Taken Blight, at the platforming section right before the final castle of the dungeon.
Upon climbing up to the platform where you first see the floating Taken Blight, look to the bottom left. There is an opening in the pillar-like mountain that has the final Taken Blight for the catalyst puzzle. Shooting it with Buried Bloodline will light up three of four torches on the right side of the area by the arched doorway and reveal four Taken Totems around this platforming section.
The Taken Totems correlate with the position of the torches — which are located next to the rightmost Taken Totem when the Totems spawn — once again. The order of torches goes from left to right so players will need to extinguish Taken Totems that match the positioning of the lit torches. These torches are spread out in this platforming section with the leftmost Totem, which corresponds with the leftmost torch, being near the end of this platforming section in the snowy mountain right before the final boss spawns some ads. The second leftmost Totem — which corresponds to the second torch from the left — is visible on the rocks that players would jump on before getting to the leftmost Totem. The third Totem is on a floating rock next to the Blight and it corresponds with the third torch from the left. The last Totem is right next to the torches and corresponds with the rightmost torch.
Completing this puzzle will display the text “An unspoken wish is silenced. Buried Bloodline clicks audibly” one last time. Players can continue platforming to the final section before the boss upon seeing this text.
Primeval Thressia, Font of Blight Secret Boss
After completing all three puzzles, players can go to the floating Toland at the bottom of the stairs that lead up to the final boss encounter. Instead of progressing to the final encounter, players need to interact with Toland. This will open the Cairn Chamber Gateway portal.
This portal would have opened up before for those who finished In the In Shadow of the Mountain quest prior to doing this catalyst puzzle. Going through the portal this time, however, will spawn a secret boss. This is Primeval Thressia, Font of Blight, a Taken Wizard.
To defeat this boss, players will need to break the shield by extinguishing the correct Taken Totems across the room. By looking at a series of torches in the center of the room, players should be able to tell which Taken Totems they need to extinguish. There are three torches to the left and three torches to the right. These directly correspond with three Taken Totems on the left and three Taken Totems on the right.
Extinguishing the correct Totems will allow players to DPS. Upon defeating this boss, players are rewarded with the Buried Bloodline catalyst.
