Into the Light preview

Into The Light is an update Bungie is adding to Destiny 2 as a prelude to The Final Shape, Bungie says this will prepare players for their Guardian’s journey into the Traveler. But what can we expect from Into The Light, and when is it going to be added? Today I’d like to dive into the rumours surrounding Into The Light, and bring you all the latest in Destiny 2.

We first heard of Into The Light back in November 2023, with Bungie laying out their plans for the 6 month-long Season of the Wish. Bungie said “Beginning in April, we’re delivering a two-month content update available to everyone called Destiny 2: Into the Light, which will prepare players for their Guardian’s journey into the Traveler.” Crucially, this is going to be available for all players, and it’s going to prepare us for our journey into the Traveller.

We have had some recent rumours going around the Destiny 2 community regarding what we could expect in this update.

When will Into The Light Start?

Bungie confirmed today that Into The Light will start on 9th April 2024, plus we have a video presentation each week starting Tuesday 19th March in the build up to release. That means videos on 19th March, 26th March and 2nd April. Whether these are all focused on Into The Light, we don’t know, but that does indicate this is potentially a lot of content.

Returning weapons

First of all, we have returning weapons. Not just any weapons, some of the best weapons we’ve ever seen in Destiny 2 including Recluse and Hammerhead. The upcoming Eververse calendar gave us clues with the ornaments available between April and June, when Into the Light is scheduled to be featured. This leads us to believe that both Recluse and Hammerhead are about to be added back into Destiny 2, and they haven’t viable options since 2020 when the power cap was introduced.

Recluse was a ritual weapon for Cruicble, which meant it was a fair grind to get the weapon, but it was widely regarded as one of the best weapons in the game at the time. It went on to dominate in PVP with Spare Rations. One of the reasons it was so potent was the perk Master of Arms, which allowed for improved damage after getting a kill.

Hammerhead was one of the best machine guns in the game, which hit very hard and was part of the Black Armory set of weapons. So far we have clues to Hammerhead returning, but does this mean the rest of the Black Armory weapons are also going to return? There were some great weapons in that set including Kindled Orchid, and Blast Furnance topping the fan-favourite lists.

Other returning weapons could include Mountaintop and Luna’s Howl/Not Forgotten. It’s likely Luna’s Howl and Not Forgotten will be added to the competitive playlist, although it’s not clear how Mountaintop will be added back into the game. Mountaintop, alongside Recluse was arguably the most powerful legendary weapon in the history of Destiny 2. It’s likely Micro Missile, Magnificent Howl will be adjusted so they don’t dominate the sandbox again.

Black Armory Forges

With the return of Hammerhead it’s no surprise to hear the potential return of the Black Armory Forges. These are multip[layer activites, likely to reward the Black armory weapons. Ada-1 is likely to play an increased role once again, and the weapon frames could make a return allowing us to craft the Black armory weapons. The forges included

Volundr Forge – Located in the EDZ on Earth
Izanami Forge – Located on Nessus
Gofannon Forge – Located on Nessus
Bergusia Forge – Located deep within the restricted Niobe Labs within the EDZ.

If all the forges are going to return, then will we see the return of Niobe Labs? That would be very good.

New social space

We could be about to get a new social space in Destiny 2 with Into The Light. Rumours suggest a combination of the Towers from Destiny 1 and 2, plus The H.E.L.M. Bungie did tell us that Destiny 1’s Tower was coming back with The Final Shape, but perhaps Bungie brought their plans forward, wanting to provide some content for Into The Light. Reports suggest the new social space will ‘provide players with a unique and immersive experience’, we’ll have to wait and see what that means, but I like the sound of a new social space.

Weekly missions

We could be about to get new missions on old locations, including improved weapons with updated perks. It’s likely the existing weapons wil be refreshed, for example, Europa weapons including Biting Winds. The missions will be weekly and will take place of different planets each week. One of the returning missions could be a return to the Red War from the original Destiny 2 campaign.

New PVP maps

We have 3 new PVP maps dropping in May. Joe Blackburn let us know about the new maps way back in August, after the original Final Shape showcase. Since then Bungie have employed a PVP strike team to improve Cruicble, and we saw a huge update mid-season in Season of the Wish. Many aspects of cruicble have changed, which has seen positive feedback from players since launch in March. New maps are going to be just what is needed to inject some freshness into cruicble for long-term players, and we can expect them in May 2024, before The Final Shape. Bungie has been criticised for adding large maps recently, and these new maps promise to be smaller to medium size.

Garden of Salvation

It’s been a long time coming, but I woudl expect the Garden of Salvation to get updated weapon perks, plus also have craftable versions of the weapons to be added into the game.

Exotic mission

We could be about to get the return of a favourite exotic mission, with the Whisper of the Worm mission returning. This was one of the best exotic missions added into Destiny 2. Originally, a portal opened up on Io, with players having to kill a specific enemy during a public event. Then Guardians had to race to the end of 20 min mission where you had to venture deep into the mission, fighting Vex and Taken along the way. It was one of the best exotic missions we had in the game, which also had links to the Vault of Glass. We were rewarded with Whisper of the Worm at the end, and could Whisper return as a craftable Exotic weapon? That would be very interesting and I’d love to see it as part of Into The Light.

Into the light is set to release on 9th April, plus we have those 3 video showcases. Very exciting stuff!

Let me know in the comments what you think.
