Destiny 2 – Everything We Know About Season 15

Season 15 is only a few days away as it arrives on Tuesday 24th August. Much of the season is surrounded by mystery, as it looks like Bungie will reveal the details on the very same day of release, much like they did last year with Season of Arrivals. We do still know some details about season 15 so today I am going to round up everything we know about season 15.

Bungie doesn’t normally keep their cards close to their chest like this, they’ve done it once before with Season of Arrivals in Summer 2020. That was because the final season leading up to Beyond Light held story spoilers by unveiling Savathun. We’re likely to get a Season 15 trailer either this week or more likely on August 24th. I imagine we’re going to get some information about The Witch Queen Expansion, plus Season 15 news, then it’ll go live shortly after in a similar way to Arrvials being released last year.

We don’t have any story details yet, but you would imagine it’s going to act as the bridge from where we are right now to the Witch Queen. Witch Queen is due to release in early 2022, so this season is also likely to be a long one, coming in at approximately 5 months. I think that would be the longest season in Destiny history, even longer than arrivals. But all that is speculation, and today I am here to deliver the facts and everything we currently know about Season 15.

Let’s dive into the details we know about

Crucible Updates

Trials will be getting a rework to its rewards, and we’ll find out more on that during the Witch Queen reveal presentation on 24th August. Three-peeking will also be fixed in Trials. For Iron Banner, We have a new Pulse Rifle and a new Sidearm coming, plus the first new set of armor in years. No news yet on the mode itself being reworked, this may come later as it looks like Bungie is focusing on Trials first.

Nightfall Updates

We have two new weapons returning from D1 including The Comedian Shotgun and the Hothead rocket launcher. Next season a pair of weapons will be on rotation, rather than a single weapon each week. For Grandmaster Nightfalls, all will be available at the launch of the mode someway into the season, rather than the last few weeks. Once you complete a GM, it’ll be no longer available in the rotation.

Weapon buffs and nerfs

Scout Rifles, Hand Cannons, and Machine Guns are getting a buff in PVE.
Anarchy is getting a nerf.
Fusion Rifles are getting a rework.
Breach Grenade launchers & Special Ammo are getting a nerf in PVP.
Exotic Primary weapons are getting a buff in PVE so they are more viable choices in endgame content.
Legendary Stasis weapons will be introduced.

Sandbox changes

Separate melee actions are being introduced, allowing us to bind melee to specific keys or buttons. Sliding is getting a nerf, as well as Stasis. There’s a number of class-specific changes

Titan – Rally barricade is getting a buff, and Behemoths are also getting a buff to given Bungie thinks they got hit too hard in the last Stasis nerf. Middle-tree sunbreaker are getting a buff, specific to the Throwing Hammer melee. Top and bottom tree Striker are getting a buff, and middle tree too… but only slightly. Top tree Sentinel is getting a nerf to Ward of Dawn.

Hunter – Revenant Hunters are getting a small buff to Squall and also Withering Blade. Middle-tree Gunslinger is getting a small buff to burning duration and Top-tree Gunslinger is getting a buff to the range. Arcstrider is seeing probably the biggest buff for Hunters with increased super duration and damage against PVE opponents by 33%. Middle Tree Nightstalker is getting a nerf to damage reduction and also DR when invisible.

Warlock – Shadebinders are getting a buff in PvE. Top tree Dawnblade is getting a huge nerf and is going to be focused more around Heat Rises. Middle tree Dawnblade is getting a buff in PVP, making it more of a viable option in PVP. Bottom tree Dawnblade is getting a big buff, given it’s a very underused subclass. Middle-tree Stormcaller is getting a big nerf, given the damage Chaos Reach has been doing in PVP. Bottom-tree Stormcaller is getting a big buff, particularly Landfall where this now shoots out projectiles on cast. Middletree Voidwalker is getting a huge buff, Nova Warp getting a PVE buff to damage of 73%, and Handheld Supernova 100%. Definitely, one to look out for next season.

Armour & mods changes

Super regenerating exotics are all getting a nerf as they will be capped at regaining 50% of the super. This includes Shards of Galanor, Ursa Furiosa, Skull of Dire Ahamkara, Pheonix Protocol, Stormdancers Brace and Geonmag Stabilizers. Other exotics are getting a rework to make them better including The Bombardiers, Graviton Forfeit, Lucky Pants, Precious Scars, Icefall Mantle, Verity’s Brow, The Stag and Promethean Spur. Warmind Cell mods are being nerfed, given they have been too strong for too long. Plus there’s a buff to some Elemental Well mods.

Crossplay

One of the biggest improvements coming in Season 15 unrelated to the gameplay or the story is that players from all platforms will be able to play with each other for the first time including PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Google Stadia. Bungie is rolling out their uniform Bungie Name system, meaning you’ll no longer have a unique identifier across platforms. PC and console players will be kept separate via matchmaking unless you specifically opt-in via your fireteam, which should nullify some of the mouse and keyboard advantages PC players have.

Transmog updates

Synthstrand is going away and it’ll cost glimmer to pick up a bounty from Ada-1. This is being done to streamline the whole transmog process.

Vendor Reputation Systems

Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit vendors will be brought into line with their reputation systems (much like we see at the moment in the game with Lord Shaxx). It’ll take less to get through the ranks, plus you’ll need to get rid of your Vanguard Tokens before Season 15 starts if you want the loot and materials. Activity streak bonuses are being introduced too if you want to sit in a playlist for a few hours.

We do have an update coming this week where we’re going to find out more about weapons, and I’ll update on that when the info is available. We’re going to find out exactly what’s going on in Season 15 including the name, the story and also crucially, how long the season actually is. Personally, I am hoping for a Dungeon, and it’s going to be interesting to see what they do with Moments of Triumph, The Dawning, and also Festival of the Lost too.

Let me know in the comments what you are most excited about with Season 15 on the horizon. Personally, I am looking forward to Crossplay!
