Submachine Guns are dominant in Destiny 2 right now, and today I want to pick out one from each of the elements including Solar, Arc, Void, Stasis and Strand. As well as pick one from each element, I want to have a look at the best one overall, plus how to get them if you’d like to add them to your builds in Destiny 2.

Without further delay, let’s dive into the best submachine guns in Destiny 2 in each of the elements.

How to get The Immortal

To get this one you’ll have to play Trials of Osiris in Destiny 2. This is the weeekend only elimination PVP mode, which you can access by getting a Trials Passage Card from Saint-14 in the Tower, then launching Trials from the Cruicble screen on the Director. You’ll have to rank up to rank 10 with Saint-14 to get the first version of this to drop, or if the weapon is the featured Adept Weapon for the week, you can get it from a flawless run.

To rank up with Saint-14 you’ll want to win round and matches to earn XP. As you earn XP and rank up, with each rank you’ll earn Trials engrams. Get to rank 10, earn your first copy of The Immortal, then you can either focus Trials engrams for random rolls of The Immortal or you can simply open the Trials Engrams and hope for the weapon to drop for you. In summary, you want to play Trials, rank up to rank 10 and then either trade in your Trials engrams or focus them with Saint-14 for random rolled versions of The Immortal.

Prolonged Engagement (Stasis Submachine Gun)

Prolonged Engagement is a Legendary Kinetic Submachine Gun with a Lightweight Frame meaning superb handling. Move faster with this weapon equipped. Looking at the stats we have Impact 15, Range 25, Stability 46, Handling 68, Reload Speed 29, Airborne Effectiveness 21, Rounds Per Minute 900 and Magazine 36.

  • Subsistence – Defeating targets partially reloads the magazine from reserves.
  • Headstone – Precision final blows spawn a Stasis crystal at the victim’s location.

For PVP Dynamic Sway Reduction and Rangefinder would be good.

  • Dynamic Sway Reduction – Improves accuracy and stability while continuously holding down the trigger.
  • Rangefinder – Increases range

How to get Prolonged Engagement

To get Prolonged Engagement you want to take part in Vanguard Ops, which can be selected from the director. When you complete Vanguard Ops, you’ll have a chance at Prolonged Engagement dropping for you. You also have the chance at getting this SMG when you level up at Zavala in the Tower, plus you can open up more perks on Prolonged Engagement too. You can also focus vanguard engrams at Zavala in the Tower to get this one.

Calus Mini-Tool (Solar Submachine Gun)

Calus Mini-Tool is a Legendary Energy Submachine Gun meaning it has superb handling. Move faster with this lightweight weapon equipped. Looking at the stats we have Impact 15, Range 30, Stability 49, Handling 65, Reload Speed 31, Rounds Per Minute 900, and Magazine 37.

For PVE Threat Detector and Incandescent would be a decent roll.

  • Threat Detector – Increased reload, stability and handling when enemies are in close proximity
  • Incandescent – Defeating a target spreads scorch to those nearby. More powerful combatants and opposing Guardians cause scorch in a larger radius.

For PVP Moving Target and Incandescent would be a good roll.

  • Moving Target – Increased movement speed and target acquisition when moving while aiming down sights.
  • Incandescent – Defeating a target spreads scorch to those nearby. More powerful combatants and opposing Guardians cause scorch in a larger radius.

We also have the origin trait called “To Excess”. Final blows with the weapon, while your Super is full grant a bonus to strength and discipline for a moderate duration.

How to get Calus Mini Tool

We can’t get the Calus Mini Tool right now, plus Banshee-44 or Xur may sell it in the future. Keep an eye on both those vendors. While you can’t get it in the game right now, if you were around for Season of the Haunted, and you got all the red borders, that means you can craft the weapon if it’s available to you.

Which one is the best?

Purely from an impact and range perspective, The Immortal is probably the best SMG in the game right now. Given The Immortal is a Trials weapon, you can also get an Adept version, meaning you can get Adept mods and improve the weapon even further.

Let me know in the comments what you think about this list of the best SMGs in each element, and let me know which one you think is the best?
