Choir of One released last week, and this is one of the best Exotics we’ve seen from an exotic mission, or anywhere in Destiny 2 for a while. Bungie will release catalysts over time, improving the performance of Choir of One as we go. The first one is the Subsistence Refit, and today I’m going to show you how to get it.

Pick up the ‘Choir: Eternal’ quest
First of all, you’ll want to run through the Encore Exotic mission found in the HELM, and pick up your first copy of Choir of One. One you finish, then go and speak to Banshee-44 to get the Choir: Eternal quest. This asks you to get the first secret chest and also complete the mission on Expert difficulty.
Before you jump into the mission it’s also worth progressing the NES007 Sample quest, which you get during your first run of Encore. Continue the quest until you get to the specimen research part, which will get you the Conductors Imprint Codes instrument from Failsafe. This allows you to unlock new secrets in the Encore Exotic mission.
Now it’s time to jump into the mission and get the secret chests. Remember to select Expert difficulty from the menu before you go in for the catalyst run.
How to get the first secret chest
Go trhough the mission as normal, and when you get to the purple area after the jumping puzzle and before the first combat encounter, go left instead of right. Here is a room with a Vex conflux in the middle and portals all around the edge. Interact with the conflux and 4 cubes will appear above you, and one will have a mini cube below it. This is indicating which to shoot in sequence.
Once you have shot these in the correct order, 4 more vex cubes will appear, and again the mini cubes will appear below them to indicate which order to shoot them. Do this, and then a chest will appear. Open up the chest and get the loot. This isn’t the secret chest you need, but it’s neccessary to get the other secret chests by unlocking the Nexus.
How to get the second secret chest
Keep going through the mission and get to the second puzzle room and you’ll see another Vex Conflux. Interact with it and go through the portal. This takes you back to the portal hub, and you’ll want to go through the portal to your left to return to the start of the mission.
Now we have another Vex Conflux to interact with. Once you do this you’ll get a timer, and you have to shoot 5 bronze targets. They are a little difficult to see because of the terrain, but they are on backs of pillars or structures. You can see them indicated by a very faint line from the original Vex conflux. That’s a theme of this mission, the environment is giving you clues for where to go and what to do, so keep your eyes peeled and look up to the sky if you get lost. When you shoot the final plate you’ll get the Vector Extension triumph, plus you’ll get Command Frame 2, the upgrade to the Intrinsic perk for Choir of One.
How to get the third secret chest
Keep going through the mission until you reach the end, or the room right before the final boss where Maya is talking about her experiments on Chioma Esi in the Istar Research Facility. There is another Vex Conflux here, interact with it and go through the portal once more. Go through the other portal from the hub and into the Aberrant Code Containment area.
There are 5 portals infront of you, plus access nodes and access modules. Above you’ll see 5 sphere’s, some are shielded and some not. The objective here is to shoot all of them before they respawn and the timer runs out. You need to go through the portals to get a clean shot on them, completing the ones without the shields first.
When you place an access module into the access node, it’s going to light up a portal next to it. The portal then sends out a line to one of the red diamonds above you, and the red diamond then points to another portal. Therefore, your current portal is telling you where to go next.
Open up a portal, check up in the sky where the next one connects, look at the spheres and which ones are shielded or not, and then run through the portals and destroy the spheres before the timer runs out. Then a secret chest is going to spawn, and this is the one you need for the catalyst quest.
Complete the mission on Expert
Finally, complete the mission, being a little more careful than when you are on normal mode. Kill the boss, and you’ll get the Subsistence Refit catalyst to drop for you. After the mission, make your way to the Enclave on Savathun’s Throne world and reshape the weapon to include the Command frame 2 plus the subsistence refit for the additional perk, then go and try it out.
In the next few weeks we’re going to have Destablizing Rounds and Onslaught, so this exotic auto rifle is only going to get better.
Let me know what you think in the comments.
