How to get Exotic Class Items (Dual Destiny Exotic Mission Guide) in Destiny 2

Exotic class items are available in Destiny 2, plus we have a new farmable exotic mission called Dual Destiny. First you have to unlock the exotic mission on the Pale Heart, then once you complete the first run you can get additional random rolls of the class item. Today I’m going to go through all the steps required to get the Exotic Class Items in Destiny 2.

To get your exotic class item you’ll need to do a few things:

  • Complete The Final Shape campaign and have the Prismatic subclass
  • Unlock the Dual Destiny Exotic Mission by playing Overthrow on the Pale Heart
  • Complete the Dual Destiny Exotic Mission

How to unlock the Dual Destiny Exotic Mission

First of all you have to get access to Dual Destiny Exotic Mission. This is where you’ll get your Exotic Class Item. To unlock this you have to complete a full run of the Overthrow activity in each region on The Pale Heart, then once you defeat the boss, find and kill a Secret-Keeper of the Witch Queen Lightbearer Wizard.

Here’s the locations

The Landing – In the cave near the Lost Sector
The Blooming – Behind the fast travel point, in the labyrinth
The Impasse – Near the Lost Sector symbol

Once you have done this, then a green beam of light will appear in the sky in The Blooming area, and this will lead you to a cave. In the cave there’s a statue of Savathun. Approach the statue, you’ll hear Savathun laughing, then you’ll see the text “A strange energy washes over you…”. Then you’ll get two markers on your HUD. Go to the markers, defeat the enemies and then a Subjugator spawns. Two motes will drop from these enemies; one dark, and one light, you’ll have to dunk these in the cave near the statue. Do this and you’ll get access to the Dual Destiny Exotic Mission.

Dual Destiny Exotic Mission Guide

Only two of you will be able to go into Dual Destiny, so you’ll need a partner – either a friend, clanmate or you’ll have to find someone via Fireteam Finder or LFG. The idea is to work together to solve the puzzles and complete the mission within the timer. One of you will need to be using a light subclass, and one a darkness subclass, or you can both use Prismatic.

To start, both stand on a light and darkness plate to open the barrier. Go through the outside area and you’ll find Pyramid Splinters leading to the caves on the other side. Get to the new barriers and you’ll have to stand on the light and darkness plates again to open up the barriers. Then we get to the first puzzle.

First Symbol Puzzle

The Light Aligned player will be calling out the order of the symbols and the Dark Aligned player will shoot the nodes with the symbols in the same order. You can either call out on voice chat, or through text chat, whatever is easiest for you. Stand on the plates to begin. Defeat enemies until the Servile enemy spawns, defeat it and then do it again. The Light Aligned player then calls out the symbols from left to right, and the Dark Aligned player shoots the nodes with the symbols in the air. When you complete this, you’ll be teleported to the next zone.

Second Symbol Puzzle

The next puzzle here is the same as before, however the team roles are reversed, plus you have 3 symbols instead of 2. Dark Aligned players do call outs and Light Aligned players shoot symbols. Complete this, then it’s onto the next puzzle.

Third Symbol Puzzle

This time we have 4 symbols, and the roles are flipped once more. Light Aligned players are doing call outs and Dark Aligned players shoot the symbols. Finish up and you’ll move onto the next section.

First Jumping Puzzle

Now we have a jumping puzzle and 6 mins will be added to the timer. You’ll want to make your way through this section as fast as possible.

First Clock Puzzle

Now we have a new puzzle where you have to shoot nodes you both see in a clock-like formation. When the encounter starts, Light Aligned and Dark Aligned players will see different nodes connected to the splinter. Tormentors will appear, and the Guardian that kills the Tormentor gets the Harmonic Sundering buff, allowing them to shoot the clock.

The player who didn’t get the buff should say which nodes they see. The guardian with the buff then sees which nodes they can see, and shoot the node that matches.

If you get it wrong the text will say “Light and Darkness fall out of balance. Your empowerment fades!”

If you get it right the text will say “Light and Darkness surge, destabilizing an obelisk!”

Repeat until the barrier goes down and you can continue.

Second Jumping Puzzle

Now we have more jumping and 6 more minutes will be added to the timer. Here we have platforms, tree branches and paths to the next area. You’ll reach a large floating platform area, where you have to kill the enemies and then stand on the darkness and light platforms to reveal gateways to launch you to separate platforms. Repeat this until you get to the end. The final platform has more enemies and Tormentors to defeat.

Boss fight

By now you will have reached the end. This is where you have to fight Expector Selin and Expector Yemiq while solving more puzzles. You fight the Subjugators separately at first, then they both attack you.

Expector Selin – This one will go immune when you remove 1/3 of it’s health. Then the first puzzle starts. Clear enemies until the Servile enemies spawn. Both Light and Dark Aligned Guardians should kill enemies. The Light Aligned player will see the symbols and the Dark ALigned player shoots the nodes with the symbols. This time read the symbols from top to bottom. Do this and then remove another 1/3 of Selin’s health. Then it’ll go immune again, and Yemiq will enter the battle.

Expector Yemiq – Now the Dark Aligned player sees symbols and the Light Aligned player shoots the nodes. Again, read them out from top to bottom. We have 6 symbols to shoot here, 4 in the middle and 1 each on the left and right. Do this correctly and Yemiq will lose his immune status, then remove another 1/3 of it’s health.

Final clock puzzle – This is similar to before, however, this time both players will need to shoot their clocks. Only one node from the 4 connections needs to be activated, and you have to do this 3 times. Go to the clock you see has only 4 connections, read out which ones are connected (like reading a clock). The other player then says which matches they have. Both shoot the node that matches, but do this quickly.

If correct then the layout will change and you have to repeat. You have to do this 3 times to solve the puzzle and lower the barrier.

Shooting the correct node it will say “Barrier strength has diminished.”

Shooting the wrong one it will say “Incorrect node: barrier frequency changing.”

Once complete, then turn your attention to Expector Selin and Expector Yemiq and kill them both. Taken Ogres and Dread appear so be careful of them. If you get to 30 secs left, Savathun will send in Sacrificial Lightbearer Wizard, defeat them for an additional 3 mins.

Defeat the bosses, then there’s a nice little surprise at the end, where you have to make a choice. After that, you’ll get the Exotic Class Item.

Let me know in the comments what you think.
