Zero Hour has returned as part of Into The Light, and it’s a reprisal of one of the best exotic missions we’ve ever had in the game. This time as a reward you’ll get a craftable Outbreak Perfected, which makes a good pulse rifle even better, so it’s well worth jumping into Zero Hour for new players and veteran players alike. Today I’m going to run through a Zero Hour guide in Destiny 2.
How to start the Zero Hour mission
First of all you’ll want to pick up the quest from Ada-1, the quest is called Asset Protection. Ada can be found in the Annex in the Tower, and she’s our transmog vendor. Once you’ve picked up this quest then you’ll be able to start Zero Hour from the Into the Light node before the Final Shape releases, then after The Final Shape, Zero Hour will move into the Exotic Mission rotation where a single exotic mission is featured per week.
Zero Hour Walkthrough
When you first load into the Tower you’ll land in the old Destiny 1 Tower. There are plenty of Fallen with heavy duty shields in the mission, so try and coordinate with your fireteam to have a mix of elements to help you get through the enemies.
You’ll meet Mithrax first of all, then you want to go into a small vent, crawl around and you’ll come out into an open area with lots of Fallen. Clear out all the enemies here and make your way through the hallways.
Then you’ll find yourself in the courtyard. Once again there are powerful enemies in here, plus a new edition of a Fallen Brig. This has a meaty healthbar so co-ordinate with your team to take it down as quickly as possible.
Keep going through the old tower and you’ll find some flaming scaffolding. There are a bunch of enemies here, including a Fallen Spider Tank, clear out the enemies here and then go under the door and drop down into the lift shaft, climb through the vent and follow it through.
You exit the vents to the shipyard and you’ll make your way over to the ship, then next to the ship you can find your way into the space below the front of the ship. Make your way down and go right into the vent, go through the hallway and go through the vent above. Go left and then into another vent next to the toolbox.
Follow the path of the vent and go right. Here you’ll find some doorways, most lead to death, but one of them you’ll want to drop down. You can find this one by shining the light down the vent and checking the grate on the floor before you go down.
Go down the vent and you’ll find yourself outside next to some yellow scaffolding. Look down and you’ll see a a very small ledge, jump down to this. Then jump off and move towards the wall. Keep jumping on the pipes up to the platform. There is a switch here you can turn on and it’ll create platforms for your teammates to jump on. Then make your way up through the open vents and you’ll find yourself in a big elevator shaft. Climb up via the platforms, shoot the vent open and go through.
Now you’ll find yourself in a big cylinder with spinning fans. Don’t touch the fans because they will kill you immediately. Instead you want to jump into the grooves over to one side to make your way down. Be careful for the exploding shanks as you make your way down. Repeat this to go all the way down to the bottom and get into the next vent.
Make your way through the hallway and jump off the ledge onto the vents on the wall. Be careful not to fall down here as space is limited, but keep jumping through and go through the door on the other side. There is switch here to help your fireteam once again.
Navigate the maze
With that section navigated, you’re now ready to enter the maze section of Zero Hour, and the infamous TR3-VR section. By now you will be able to check out the map. The white parts of the map represent the areas where you can walk, the red arrows represent the switches you’ll need to hit. You start in the middle bottom of the map. Have a good look at the map, then drop down the vents onto the floor.
With your fireteam I would recommend sending one to the left and one to the right.
For the player on the right
Run forward and go left. Keep going until you find the split.
Turn right
Follow the path and hit the first switch
Keep running until you get back to the original hallway.
Watch out for the walls of electricity. If the electricity is starting to form then you can run through it, if it forms a barrier then you may have to wait.
Once you get past the electricity then take a right. There’s a huge electric shredding machine chasing you around the maze called TR3-VR. You can avoid being killed instantly by TR3-VR by hiding in the spaces in the wall. There is a visual and audio warning if TR3-VR is coming, there’s the red light and the sound.
Avoid TR3-VR and jump back into the hallway and go left. Follow the path until it opens to the right, hit the switch and return to the main hallway. Follow the path, take a right and you’ll reach the exit. Check the exit signs on the wall for directions to the exit. If you’ve hit all 4 switches, then the exit door will be open.
Make your way into the room and then jump onto the lift. Hit the button and go up. Jump onto the platform and shoot the vent door to open up the path. Go down the chute and try to clow yourself down as you propel fast down, you don’t want to smash into the wall. When you exit the chute go left, then right and crawl through the vent on the floor.
Vault maze
You’ve made it past TR3-VR, but there’s still the vault maze. This is in the old Cryptarch Vault. On the opposite side of the door you’ll see some pipes. Go forward and you’ll see the Cryptarch symbol, stand next to it and a secret door will open. Go forward again and you’ll come to a section with white floor tiles. You will need to step on these tiles in the correct order, otherwise you will die. Follow the path I take and you should be fine. Once you’ve made it over the floor, make your way to the end of the vault. There’s a burned hole in the floor here, jump through it and it’s time to fight the boss.
Siriks Boss Fight
Siriks is a Fallen Captain with a Scorch Cannon. The first job is to take out Siriks’ Fallen friends including Servitors, turrets and loads of shanks. Inflict as much damage as you can and watch out for the “Siriks retreats…” message.
Two Fallen Spider tanks will drop down (yes two) and you’ll want to take them out, plus more Fallen ASAP. Then you’ll see the message “Siriks returns… heavily armed.”
Siriks this time has a huge Fallen Brig. Apply as much DPS as possbible to the Brig to blow off the shields and be careful of the airstrikes. Blast off the shields and take down the Brig, and Siriks.
Once he’s dead then collect your loot from the chest. You’ll get the Outbreak Perfected schematic. Go back to the Tower and you’ll be able to pick up Outbreak Perfected from Ada. Ada then gives you Outbreak Perfected, plus you can remove the pattern.
Let me know in the comments what you think of the returning Zero Hour Exotic Mission.
