Festival of the Lost is back, that means its Halloween season and we have some excellent loot to chase. The loot chase has improved this year and we have another way of getting Exotic armor, with the introduction of eerie engrams and exotic focusing, plus we have a brand new heavy grenade launcher to get. Today I’m going to get into the details of the event, what is it, how it works, how to farm it quickly, plus the god roll weapons to chase this year.
What is Festival of the Lost?
Festival of the Lost is the Halloween event inside Destiny 2 and it runs from Tuesday 17th October until Tuesday 7th November 2023. The loot system has seen a revamp, and you can get legendary and exotic loot, plus halloween themed armor.
How does Festival of the Lost work?
After a short introduction quest from Eva Levante you are introduced to Haunted Sectors, these are variations of Lost Sectors with a Halloween theme. First of all, wear your Halloween Mask. You’ll get given one during the introduction quest, or if you have played before, you’ll likely have one in your vault. Make sure to wear the mask at all times during Festival of the Lost.
The idea is to go out into playlists, collect Spectral pages, then head into Haunted Sectors to convert your pages into Manifested Pages by killing Headless Ones. The more pages you convert, the more loot you are going to get meaning more Festival of the Lost loot like Jurassic Green, Horror Story Auto Rifle and the new Heavy Acosmic Grenade Launcher.
Where as in previous seasons spectral pages were the focus, this time it’s all about Eerie Engrams, which are new engrams introduced this season and added to Legend Haunted Sectors. These take a little bit longer and include champions, so watch out for Barrier and Unstoppable while you are in there. When you complete the Legend Haunted Sectors you have a chance at getting an Eerie Engram. You then take this to Eva Levante in the Tower to focus for specific rewards.
If you want you can buy the Festival of the Lost armor ornaments from the Eververse store. But only do this if you can afford it. It’s always great looking armor and I don’t mind adding it to my collection for at least one of my guardians.
Festival of the Lost Rewards
Bungie have introduced Legend Haunted Sectors. There’s a lot of loot, so lets have a look at the new engrams and focusing options.
Eerie Engrams
A new type of engram for 2023! Eerie Engrams have two uses. Players can crack them open individually for some treats, or use them as currencies for Hocus Focusing (which we will get into below). Eerie Engrams will have a chance to drop upon completion of Haunted Sectors. Legend Haunted Sectors will have a higher chance of dropping Eerie Engrams.

Memento
There’s a new black leather look memento exclusive to Festival of the Lost. It’s a random drop from Eerie engrams and gives your weapons that all-black look.
How to get Spectral Pages and Candy fast
Spectral pages can be acquired from activities around the game; strikes, cruicble matches, gambit, public events, nightfalls, pretty much any activity rewards spectral pages. One way of getting Spectral Pages is through Public Events. You’ll get 2 or 3 pages per event.
The most efficient way of getting Spectral Pages is the First Contact mission from the Lightfall campaign. You’ll need to go in with another guardian, and then swap Guardians once you beat the Tormentor. You want to tell your buddy not to get in the drop pod at the end of the mission before you load in with your other guardian. Then just swap back and forth and this will give you roughly 9 Spectral Pages per minute. To get Candy running Public events appears to be the most efficient way of getting them, giving you between 150-200 candy per public event. Strikes give 350, but they take much longer.
Festival of the Lost God Roll Weapons
Here’s a run down of the weapons available for Festival of the Lost this season.
Acosmic (Grenade Launcher)
This is the new weapon introduced this season, and it’s got some very tasty rolls.
Acosmic GSP is a Legendary Power Grenade Launcher with a Rapid-Fire Frame meaning it has deeper ammo reserves. Slightly faster reload when magazine is empty.
For PVE Clown Cartridge and Destabalising Rounds would be good. Clown Cartridge overloads the magazine from reserves, meaning it could be more than 5 in the magazine, which is a lot already. Destabalizing rounds is going to be great with void builds, as final blows with the weapon cause enemies to lbecome volatile.
For PVP Impulse Amplifier and Cascade Point would be good, or Explosive Light is also a decent choice. Both of these perks get the grenades fired fast towards your opponent, so anything that helps kill opponents quicker is a good idea.
Horror Story (Auto Rifle)
Horror Story is a Legendary Kinetic Auto Rifle with a Precision Frame meaning this weapon’s recoil pattern is more predictably vertical.
For PVE Cleanshot IS, Accurized Rounds, Subsistence and Rampage would be a decent roll. Cleanshot IS gives you a boost to handling and a slight increase to the range, then accurized rounds increase the range again. Subsistence partially reloads the magazine from reserves and rampage increases the damage and that stacks up to three times.
For PVP Rifle Scope ST, Flared Magwell, Killing Wind, and Moving Target would be good. The rifle Scope increases range and decreases handling speed, the Flared Magwell increases stability and greatly increases reload speed. Killing Wind is great for PVP and final blows give you increased mobility, range, and handling for a short duration, then finally, in Moving Target you get increased movement speed and target acquisition when moving while aiming down sights.
Jurassic Green (Pulse Rifle)
Jurassic Green is a Legendary Energy Pulse Rifle with a Rapid-Fire Frame meaning deeper ammo reserves. Slightly faster reload when the magazine is empty.
For PVE Corkscrew Rifling, Appended Mag, Subsistence, and Frenzy would be a decent roll. Corkscrew gives you an increase in range, stability, and handling speed, and Appended Mag gives you a large magazine capacity boost. Subsistence partially reloads the magazine from reserves when you defeat targets and Frenzy gives you increased damage, handling, and reload when you are in combat.
Another great perk for PVE is Incandescent, given this is a solar weapon. Incandescent is a go-to perk on solar weapons and when defeating a target spreads scorch to those nearby. More powerful combatants and opposing Guardians cause scorch in a larger radius.
For PVP Smallbore, High Calibre Rounds, Killing Wind and Multi kill Clip would be good. Smallbore gives you that increase in range and stability. Killing Wind is where final blows with the weapon increase mobility, range, and handling for a short duration, and then Multi kill Clip gives you increased damage upon reloading.
Mechabre (Sniper Rifle)
Mechabre is a Legendary Energy Sniper Rifle with an Aggressive Frame meaning it delivers high damage and high recoil.
Mechabre is a good all rounder. It’s got a low zoom when aiming down sights, meaning it’s a great option for PVP. Given it can roll with Snapshot Sights and Opening Shot, I think we’re going to be seeing a lot of this in PVP from now on. It’s also an Aggressive Frame with Arc damage, meaning its going to fit into those arc builds very nicely this season and beyond.
For PVP Fluted Barrel, Accurized Rounds, Snapshot Sights, and Opening Shot
Snapshot Sights – Faster time to aim down sights
Opening Shot – Improved accuracy and range on the opening shot of attack.
For PVE Arrowhead Brake, Tactical Mag, Triple Tap, and Vorpal Weapon
Triple Tap – Rapidly landing precision hits will return one round to the magazine.
Vorpal Weapon – Increased damage against bosses, vehicles, and Guardians with their Super active.
Ghost Writer Title
The event title is Ghost Writer and you’ll be able to complete this by completing the event card challenges, plus you can guild it too. You can find the title in the character screen and check out the goals, or through the event card itself.
